Clear Creek ISD breaks ground on McWhirter Elementary
HOUSTON - June 2, 2014 -Clear Creek ISD representatives, city officials and members of the local community celebrated the groundbreaking for the new McWhirter Elementary in Webster, Texas last Thursday. The replacement elementary school is designed by VLK Architects.
The new school will replace the existing McWhirter Elementary on the same site. The school will stay in operation while the new school is built. The new McWhirter will be a one-story building of 125,000 square feet, and will be designed to feature collaborative areas for each grade level. The design also includes a community education area where the district teaches adults in the evenings or McWhirter students can get additional tutoring.
'Through a collaborative design process involving stakeholders throughout the district, VLK has designed a school which supports the district's mission of 'Leading the Way in the 21st Century',' said VLK Principal Ken Hutchens. 'McWhirter is a true 'community-based' campus that supports the community it serves with educational outreach for the kids and families of the surrounding area. We are proud to have been assigned this project by the district and to have designed a facility that supports such a fantastic mission as McWhirter.'
The new McWhirter Elementary will open to students in January 2016.
