Embracing the educational heritage of Midlothian
FORT WORTH, Texas ' On Aug. 17, the Midlothian community came together to celebrate their heritage. Students, parents, community leaders and staff all gathered to get a preview of the new Midlothian Heritage High School (MHHS) at the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
As the second high school for the District, Midlothian Heritage High School adds to Midlothian's 100-year educational history. VLK Architects, who designed the facility, participated in the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and provided tours and explanations of the creative spaces that are unique to MHHS.
'VLK became a true partner throughout the process and are still helping even after the facility itself was finished. Ultimately, VLK is all about the kids, and that is what Midlothian Heritage is all about too,' said Krista Tipton, principal of Midlothian Heritage High School. 'The Class of 2018 was named by the student design team as the 'Class of Possibilities.'The design has opened a window to creativity and innovation'a world of possibility for all MHHS students.'
'Kids are not always given the opportunity to share their vision. VLK allowed us to be part of the design process which made us feel that our opinions were valued,' said Marissa Villarreal, Midlothian freshman. 'Our dreams have become a reality at MHHS because students were allowed to be part of the design process.'
The Class of 2018 began their first year at Midlothian Heritage High School on the first day of school on Aug. 25.
