Plummer Elementary renovations to be completed by end of summer
FORT WORTH, Texas -May 13, 2014 - Phase I renovations at Plummer Elementary in the Cedar Hill ISD are now complete. The last two phases of construction should wrap up by the end of the summer, allowing students returning to school in August to experience a new school.
The scope of work consisted of renovating interior spaces, including:
- painting exterior and interior spaces of building
- replacing exterior windows with energy efficient windows
- replacing ceilings and floors throughout the building
- full renovation of all toilet rooms
- removing lockers in corridors
- adding cubbies in all classrooms
The project also involved removing and replacing the roof, and providing new energy efficient mechanical systems within the building.
'We are pleased with the work of VLK Architects in cosmetically bringing our building back to life and creating a modern welcoming environment,' said Jason Miller, Plummer Elementary principal. 'The students' and teachers', eyes lit up when they moved into the recently completed Phase I.'
The project is particularly unique because it allows for renovation of the existing school while simultaneously allowing school operations to continue unaffected. Students are temporarily housed in alternate classrooms during construction.
