Providing Students with an Individualized Learning Environment at College View High School
College Station, Texas ' Classes for the 2016-2017 school year started on Monday, August 22nd for students of College View High School in College Station, Texas. College View will provide students with a multitude of different academic and extracurricular programs in hopes to better prepare them for their futures. This new campus was funded after College Station ISD's approved 2013 bond referendum for 83.5 million dollars.
Inspired by a collegiate environment, students attend College View by applying. Since this campus does not rely on zoning restrictions to reach capacity, enrollment is up to students, giving them the freedom of choice in the type of high school experience they desire. Founded on creativity and innovation, College View seeks to provide for their students emotionally, socially, and academically in an effort to get them college and career-ready. High schoolers who are interested in getting a head start on their college education can take dual-credit courses and obtain up to 30 college hours before even starting at a university. With a small enrollment of 200 students, smaller class sizes provide students with one-on-one, personalized instruction from their teachers. Beyond tailored academic instruction, College View also offers a multitude of extracurricular, courses including an innovative art program.
'We are proud to have been a part of the new College View High School,' said Melissa Fleming, VLK Project Director. 'The collaborative and flexible spaces throughout the building will allow for ample opportunities for both staff and students to tailor the building to the learning environments they desire.'
Catering to individual learning styles, this new, modern campus features 17 reconfigurable classrooms with nanawalls that open up to surrounding collaborative spaces. Large windows allow access to an abundance of natural light.
'Our first day at College View High School was a great success,' said Jon Hall, College Station ISD's Director of Facilities. 'The excitement was contagious as the staff and students began to use this innovative building for the first time. VLK's design is performing exactly as we hoped it would and our students have a broad range of options for customizing their learning experiences. The main lobby area, with its break out study areas, is particularly inspiring with the views across to Texas A&M University literally showing what is possible with hard work and focus. With their new found perspective on learning, these students are unlimited in their potential. Thanks to VLK for guiding us through the process and opening our eyes to cutting edge design!'
