Several newly-renovated VLK schools across the state ready for student use
FORT WORTH, Texas - Students across Texas experienced new or renovated facilities on their first day of school as projects were completed on time by VLK Architects during the summer.
The projects include:
Aledo Learning Center, Aledo ISD ' VLK completed an expansion to the Center allowing for a unique, open, flexible learning lab that can support independent learning and serve as training/adaptive-use space for the district. The expansion also included a new outdoor activity court, a conference room, additional conference/collaboration space and a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) expansion. The project will support new district growth.
Plummer Elementary, Cedar Hill ISD ' Plummer Elementary's newly-renovated building received new HVAC systems, ceilings, flooring and paint, with the focus on creating an environment that encourages student achievement and learning opportunities.The goal of the new flooring, walls and ceilings in the corridors was to create a strong sense of pride and revitalized energy throughout the campus.
Cedar Hill High School, Cedar Hill ISD ' A 10-classroom addition opened to assist the campus in expanding the student's opportunities in STEM and Career and Technology.A new mechanical system and ductwork throughout the campus address thermal comfort issues previously experienced. The campus received a new roof, a new culinary arts lab and new theatrical arts performance space. A softball and baseball complex will open at the end of September.
Various, Clear Creek ISD ' Consisting of site work, architectural renovations and mechanical and life-safety system upgrades, VLK completed its first round of projects associated with the 2013 Bond. Developed as three separate packages to achieve the best value for the District, the projects consisted of renovations to Bay Elementary School, Hyde Elementary, North Pointe Elementary and Bay Professional Learning Center; renovations to Brookwood Elementary, Ferguson Elementary, Ward Elementary, Wedgewood Elementary; and mechanical renovations to League City Elementary School and Ed White Elementary.
Various, College Station ISD ' Addressing exterior envelope concerns Rock Prairie Elementary's exterior masonry envelope was replaced including the water-proofing system and exterior glazing which will also reduce the building's energy consumption. Three new security vestibules were constructed at Southwood Valley Elementary School, A&M Consolidated Middle School and College Station Middle School, completing the District's security vestibule upgrades. These were the first projects completed as part of the District's 2013 Bond.
Timber Creek High School, Keller ISD ' Build-out of the campus master plan was achieved for Keller ISD's fourth high school with the completion of the third academic classroom wing. The addition includes 29 classrooms, two computer labs, collaboration space, workrooms and additional parking for this rapidly-growing area of the district. VLK completed the master plan and initial phase in 2009.
